Missing man found on tasmanian west coast

8.19am: The man has been located on a beach on the west coast of Tasmania, police say.

They say the man’s wallet has been recovered from the water, and it had a lock of hair and jewellery inside.

The man was last seen wearing dark shoes and a dark shirt.

Officers say the man is a white male, about five foot seven and 170cm tall, with black hair and hazel eyes.

Investigation continues.

8.06am: A man found dead in Southport on Sunday has been named as Michael Anthony Deakin, 58. Police say they are investigating.

Anyone who believes they have seen the victim is asked to contact Southport homicide investigation station on 1300 737 730.

A police spokeswoman says the area around Mr Deakin’s house was cordoned off for forensic enquiries while the man’s body was taken to Southport Forensic Institute.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.

The incident comes just days after a man killed himself outside the TAS branch of the Woolworths in Southport after spending over one-and-a-half weeks homeless.

A 53-year-old man named as Stephen Williams from Adelaide died on Sunday night after spending more than a week homeless.

Police are investigating how the tragedy happened in the Woolworths branch, on the corner of Main and Swanston Sts, on the weekend.

A 41-year-old man named as Andrew Hinton has been arrested after refusing to answer calls from police following his death on January 20.

Police on Monday confirmed they had arrested a 36-year-old man in relation to the death.

The TAS branch is one of many in the city facing closure due to a housing crisis.
